Fighting Slovakian Nazis.

Facebook memories just told me that OTD in 2020 this film launched in Slovakia. ‘Postavme sa spoločne’ means ‘Let’s stand together’.

The short version of a long story is that my mate Zuzana contacted me after I’d shared the original UK version of the film.

Zuzana knew that the film would be a great way to combat the rise of a vile far right, Neo-Nazi party who were polling high in the Slovakian elections. And she asked if I could help connect her to the film’s makers, because she wanted to make a Slovakian version with Slovakian sporting celebrities. Time was of the essence because when she asked us there were only 35 days until polling day.

A friend (thanks Juliet) connected me to the film maker, who was happy for us to make the Slovakian version.

Zuzana and a group of Slovak activists, filmmakers, production professionals and sports celebrities made it all happen in time. Lots of late nights, lots of video calls and a few wobbles later they launched it.

When I think of the expereicne I think of Zuzana’s passion and her ability to get me to do things I didn’t think were possible.

Which proves to me that most things are possible if you replace talking with doing.

And that Neo Nazi party in Slovakia? They did much worse in the elections than the polls said they would. Which is great, because I f*cking hate Nazis.
