The Killing of a Journalist.

I love going to Slovakia.

I have friends in Slovakia.

I once helped fight Nazis in Slovakia.

I'm very interested in Slovakia.

While I was in the Czech Republic last week, (yes I know I should call it Czechia), I watched the documentary, ‘The Killing of a Journalist’. It tells the story of the murder of a young journalist Jan Kuciak his partner Martina Kusnirova, it exposes corruption at the highest level of the Slovakian establishment and their families’ fight for justice. The depth of the corruption is breathtaking, from the head of police, to judges and seemingly all the way up to the Prime Minster, a man called Fico, who resigned in disgrace in the aftermath of the murder. And who was recently voted back in as Slovakia’s Prime Minister.

It’s on Netflix and I’d recommend it.

This BBC article is good background if you’re interested: The mafia murders that brought down Slovakia's government.
